HUNGARY
By Theresa Scanlon

The country's prized neoclassical Chain bridge on the Danube River

Hungary is no ordinary European country...

In Hungary, travelers can wander outside their North American experience and visit entire towns full of history and culture. From Budapest to medieval wine growing towns, Hungary is as versatile and as typically European as any western European country.

Hungary possesses a natural Eastern European flair...the exuberance and excitement of its people who have exerted their own independence after years of communist rule, food embracing flavors from old Hungarian farms to the pastries and gourmet specialties of Austro-Hungarian days, and a land of more than 1,000 hot springs and enough spa facilities to accommodate 300,000 people at the same time.

European splendor saturates Hungary's capital city of Budapest which is actually three cities wrapped into one.  The oldest section is Obuda (Old Buda) gives visitors some background on how it all began in Hungary.

Excavated ruins of Roman city of Aquincum are visible with relics on display in the Aquincum Museum.  On the flat plain bordering the eastern Danube sits busy urban Pest, alive with restaurants, antique shops and boutiques.
